Decision makers have to have access to data and information rapidly and interpret them accurately. Therefore, it is a necessity for decision makers to be equipped with knowledge in the areas of Statistics and Computer Science and/or to work with such skilled personnel.
The aim of the Department of Statistics and Computer Science is to equip students with the knowledge and assets that are required by decision makers. At the programme developed in order to achieve this aim, in the statistics field: besides the basic applied statistic courses, mathematic courses as required by statistics and computer sciences, statistical theory, advanced applied statistics and a wide spectrum of elective courses are offered. At the computer science field courses focusing on cutting-edge programming techniques, computer hardware and establishing and managing computer systems are offered. In the Department of Statistics and Computer Science, courses are enhanced by application lectures held in the department computer laboratory. The laboratory houses a top notch server, multimedia projection equipment, laser printers, a scanner and a vast amount of PCs which are connected to the Internet via the wide local area connection of the University. Each student is given a seperate user account and e-mail address. At the courses and applied lectures each student is assigned a single PC.
Our students graduate with the capabilities and knowledge to allow them to perform data collection, statistical analysis and forecasting in the fields of Economics, Operations Research, Biology, Health Sciences and Social Sciences. Furthermore, they are equipped with the necessary and required knowledge in the areas of computer programming, computer systems, hardware and operation. Our graduates are employed at the departments of statistics and research, information systems, software and hardware of both public and private sector organizations and companies.
